Design a BRL-CAD splash screen #9BRL-CAD
Status: ClosedTime to complete: 100 hrs Mentors: Jacob B, IshwerdasTags: image, GUI, 2D, design, graphics, logo, splash screenBeginner

BRL-CAD's new modeling interface, archer, displays a splash screen when you start the program.  This is what it currently looks like:

http://svn.code.sf.net/p/brlcad/code/brlcad/trunk/src/tclscripts/archer/images/aboutArcher.png

There are several problems with that image.  It uses our old logo.  It references the wrong website.  It has a massive pointless ""icon"".  It proclaim's archer being trademarked (distracting).

Your task is to design a completely new splash screen that has none of those problems, is visually interesting, optionally incorporates our new logo, and optionally references our main website (brlcad.org).

Check out some of the other design tasks for inspiration.  Make yours look even more impressive, artistically interesting. ;)

Submit your image in whatever raw working format you use (e.g., psd), preferably something with layers in case we need to change anything, but also submit a final png image as well.

I really like the creativity here, even if it is a bit cheesy-it makes me think of "Archer" a bit differently.  I would try to make the design look a bit more professional/polished:

  • Make the man look less like a jumble of shapes and more like one outline

  • Do something more interesting with the background (or move the man and text)

  • Be more creative with the font choice-most of our current design work is sans-serif, so I would see about using a good looking sans-serif font.

(By the way, that link in the task description is mixed up-what is points to now is actually a pretty good design; the old, not so good one looked like http://svn.code.sf.net/p/brlcad/code/brlcad/trunk/src/tclscripts/archer/images/aboutArcher.png?p=50000)
