Design a BRL-CAD Sticker #10BRL-CAD
Status: ClosedTime to complete: 100 hrs Mentors: Deepak, IshwerdasTags: artwork, concept, photoshop, design, sticker

This task involves designing a BRL-CAD sticker. Make it look good, something you'd be proud to give to all of your friends and family, something you'd put on your laptop or phone case. Look over some great sticker designs before starting to work on this, including the other completed GCI sticker designs by others.

Simple is good. Using our formal (the three circles) or informal (moose antlers) logo is great. Please avoid any military theme (no tanks!), do not use our old eagle logo, but do put a dash in BRL-CAD. If you use the three circle gear logo, the centers should be white and it must be 300dpi high quality -- use one of the vector versions submitted as a GCI task here or search around for one.

There is no bound shape for the shape of the sticker. It can be rectangular, circular, or even irregular shaped. The only thing that matters is that it look really cool.

Submit your artwork in any file format, but with transparency or dimension settings so we can print them properly. (png, xcf, or psd work well). Give your name so we can credit you if you like as well and join our brlcad-news mailing list to hear if we use your sticker design.

Make it look awesome. LOOK at some of the completed ones and make yours look even better. :-)

Sean on December 11 2014 03:19 UTCgorgeous but...

Gorgeous tiger, but what does it and diamonds have to do with BRL-CAD? :)

Please create a sticker design that pertains specifically to our community.  Ideally, something creative or playful that relates to 3D solid modeling or (even better) BRL-CAD specifically.  Technical note, we're usually rather insistent that "BRL-CAD" be written as such, with a dash.  If you're going to separate BRL from CAD, it has to be an outstanding reason.

Please see some of the completed sticker ideas for inspiration.  Or when in doubt, try to freehand draw a moose (our mascot).

Hardik, this design has far too much fake 3D effects for my taste, but it is better than the tiger.  Here's some technical issues remaining:

  • the B R and L have a white outline that distinguish them from their white background, but the C A D letters do not.  this makes the CAD letters seem thin and weak.  Perhaps try a black outline with a white/light shadow on C A D

  • our project adheres to US spelling in leu of British variants.  That means it should be MODELING with just one L

  • the text in the box, both lines, is not centered

  • there seems to be an inconsistent amount of space between words on the first line (open and source) and the second line (3d and modeling)

  • the box is too high, leaving an inconsistent amount of empty space below the box as compared to above the logo.
