Model BRL-CAD in BRL-CAD #3BRL-CAD
Status: ClosedTime to complete: 100 hrs Mentors: Isaac Kamga, Daniel_RTags: modeling, logo, CAD, design, 3d

Model our project name with our tools. You can use any method you like to model such as interactively with mged or archer, or as a script.

Model the letters of "BRL-CAD" in CSG (without polygons and not using an EBM).

The output of this task will be a .g file of BRL-CAD and a rendered image. This is your opportunity as an artist and 3D magician to come up with an interesting yet understandable interpretation.

Note that there are other "BRL-CAD" title modeling tasks and yours must start from scratch and be completely original.

This command run within MGED should help give you an interesting render:

rt -A0.75 -s1024 -c {set ambSamples=256}

The output png file was the result of converting the brlcad-modeled-output.pix generated by the following rt command to png with pix-png; the rt command used was: rt -o brlcad-modeled-output.pix -a 270 -e 45 -A0.75 -s1024 brlcad-modeled.g all.g

Hello, Andromeda!

Perhaps it's just my impression but the L looks 2D compared to the other letters that look 3D. It makes it a bit confusing. Also, the B semicircles seem to overlap a bit.

Aside of this, it looks great, thank you!

Cheers,

Andrei

Andromeda Galaxyon December 16 2014 07:45 UTCB semicircles

I actually put the B semicircles overlapping slightly like that on purpose, as I thought it added a little bit more distinctiveness than is there otherwise.. the L is the same as the other letters, but the render lighting conditions did make it look a little flat, I'll try to fix that quickly now.

Popescu Andrei on December 16 2014 07:47 UTC

If you put the B semicircles on purpose, leave them like that :). Also, if you can quickly fix the L,  the task is done, from my point of view.

Andromeda Galaxyon December 16 2014 07:48 UTCNew render

The nenw render was made with -e60 to rt, it makes thn depth on the 'l' a little bit clearer...

Popescu Andrei on December 16 2014 07:50 UTCPerfect!

That's exactly what I meant! Awesome, Andromeda! You have fixed it in such a short time, congratulations!
