Design a BRL-CAD splash screen #14BRL-CAD
Status: ClosedTime to complete: 100 hrs Mentors: Sean, IshwerdasTags: image, GUI, 2D, design, graphics, logo, splash screenBeginner

BRL-CAD's new modeling interface, archer, displays a splash screen when you start the program.  This is what it currently looks like:

http://svn.code.sf.net/p/brlcad/code/brlcad/trunk/src/tclscripts/archer/images/aboutArcher.png

There are several problems with that image.  It uses our old logo.  It references the wrong website.  It has a massive pointless ""icon"".  It proclaim's archer being trademarked (distracting).

Your task is to design a completely new splash screen that has none of those problems, is visually interesting, optionally incorporates our new logo, and optionally references our main website (brlcad.org).

Check out some of the other design tasks for inspiration.  Make yours look even more impressive, artistically interesting. ;)

Submit your image in whatever raw working format you use (e.g., psd), preferably something with layers in case we need to change anything, but also submit a final png image as well.

We always have the dash when writing BRL-CAD, for consistency and marketing purposes.  Also, you seem to be using an old version of our logo.  Please see http://brlcad.org/wiki/Logo to get an updated version (several to choose from with different issues each).

Dear Mentors,

I have made the necessary changes and zipped them for submission as BRL-CAD Splash Screen.zip. As for the new logo, it is taken from Chan's submission (https://www.google-melange.com/gci/task/view/google/gci2013/6237896147206144) and as for the color of the word not the same as the new logo, it is because I feel that the color could have been the original color if seen from front view if I treat the logo as a 3D object.

Thank You.

Regards,

Zenon

Zenon,

You've done a good job designing this splash screen, it looks good and it's a clean, simple design!

The one thing I would address is if you could make the logo(the big one, on the left) in a higher resolution, or sharpen, or something. It looks a bit blurry.

Cheers,

Andrei

Dear Mentors,

I have tried my best to make the necessary changes. I have set the ppi to 600 and zipped the files as BRL-CAD Splash Screen v2.1. If the logo is still not clear enough then it may be due to the image itself as I was to use the image uploaded from another task as advised by the mentor.

Zenon
