Status: ClosedTime to complete: 100 hrs Mentors: Deepak, Ch3ckTags: layout, tshirt, artistic, design, artworkBeginner

This task involves designing a T-Shirt for BRL-CAD. Use your designing skills to design a T-Shirt for BRL-CAD. You can use the current BRL-CAD logo, or you may tweak it. Be creative while designing this T-Shirt. It would be good if the design has some special meaning.

You are encouraged to discuss and share progress with the developers for interactive feedback.  Look at some of the other completed GCI design tasks for inspiration but create an original work.  Submit your artwork as raw editable files (ideally with layers in case we need to edit the design) and join the brlcad-news mailing list to hear if we use your design at some point in the future.

Be awesome, be creative.  Make yours better than the rest. ;)

Deepak on December 2 2014 18:14 UTCTask Need Improvement

Hey Engelo,

I appreciate your efforts. Here is feedback :

Front

  • Spelling of the modeling is wrong.

  • Open Source Solid Modeling should be aligned at the center.

  • The size of open source solid modeling system should be little more increased as the letter look merged inside themselves.

Back

Little more efforts required to improve the back also.  You may try it by improving the circle color / without circle and I welcome your ideas too :).

Sean on December 3 2014 04:38 UTCan improvement

Hi Engelo!

This is definitely an improvement over your previous two versions, but it feels like there's still much more room for improvement.  It's hard to see this design, though, because the image resolution is too low.

Please submit a mockup in PNG format as well as whatever raw format you're working with (e.g., PSD for Photoshop or XCF for Gimp).

Some specific feedback on the design itself:

  1. the font choice is interesting, but you'll have to be more meticulous about unintended issues.  for example, the shirt front looks like it says MODEUNG.

  2. the A on the front has a dot, the ones on the back do not

  3. the back "BRL CAD" is missing a dash

  4. the two dashes on the front create a visual imbalance as they don't line up.  if you make them line up, the visual balance will shift too much to the right.

  5. the logo on the front no longer has circular pins.  You changed the aspect ratio so that it's slightly squished.

That's the main technical issues I'm seeing.  That said, there is one more practical issue wearing a shirt with that design.  I don't know about your shirts, but it's highly unusual to have a shirt design where the imagery on the front is nearly the same size as that on the back.  Depending on how it's printed, having a design that big on the front can be quite uncomfortable too.

Deepak on December 3 2014 17:13 UTCGood job but little mistakes

Hey Engelo,

I love your all designs and this design too. Present design is quite good than previous one but there are little mistakes in this design.

PNG :

  • There is full stop in between Source and Solid which is not required.

  • Increase font size of "Open Source Solid Modeling" little bit.

  • On back side "Design That Matter" should be aligned at the center which is not.

XCF:

  • There is full stop in between Source and Solid which is not required.

  • Increase font size of "Open Source Solid Modeling" little bit.

  • Design, That, Matter all these three words are not aligned with each other. "Design" should be aligned at the center and the two words "That Matter" should be aligned properly with left and right margin respectively.

  • The A on the front has a dot, the ones on the back do not.

Everything else seems good.

Good job Engelo.

Deepak on December 3 2014 18:03 UTCMore to do

Engelo,

There are still small mistakes. There must be no full stop in between the two words " Source and Solid " both in png and xcf.  Did you increased the font size of " Open Source Solid Modeling " or not?

Engeloon December 3 2014 18:27 UTCI increased but..

I increased the font size but when I enlarge it a bit, the text goes out of the t-shirt. Shat should I do?

Deepak on December 3 2014 19:47 UTCAdjust font-weight

Instead of font-size try to increase font-weight. Check if it works or not or try to implement in some other way so that one is able to read at first sight.
