Design a BRL-CAD splash screen #10BRL-CAD
Status: ClosedTime to complete: 96 hrs Mentors: Mandeep Kaur, Hardeep Singh RaiTags: image, GUI, 2D, design, graphics, logo, splash screenBeginner

BRL-CAD's new modeling interface, archer, displays a splash screen when you start the program.  This is what it currently looks like:

http://svn.code.sf.net/p/brlcad/code/brlcad/trunk/src/tclscripts/archer/images/aboutArcher.png

There are several problems with that image.  It uses our old logo.  It references the wrong website.  It has a massive pointless ""icon"".  It proclaim's archer being trademarked (distracting).

Your task is to design a completely new splash screen that has none of those problems, is visually interesting, optionally incorporates our new logo, and optionally references our main website (brlcad.org).

Check out some of the other design tasks for inspiration.  Make yours look even more impressive, artistically interesting. ;)

Submit your image in whatever raw working format you use (e.g., psd), preferably something with layers in case we need to change anything, but also submit a final png image as well.

Harmanpreet on December 7 2014 14:35 UTCVery Nice!

Hi Arpit,

I really liked your design. Adding something 3D into the image (either in the background or in foreground) would make it more awesome. Just try it out and show us how it looks like.

Good luck!be better

Sean on December 9 2014 06:03 UTCawesome!

Arpit, these are awesome.  If you'd used a BRL-CAD rendered geometry for the background, they would have been perfect!  As a splash screen for our application, the background imagery really should either be fully generic/artistic or something that depicts our interface, something you could conceivably see in our tools.

Perhaps you can replace the background with a geometry you import into Archer or you can zoom-in on a portion of some interesting rendering we already have in http://brlcad.org/gallery ?

Also, I'm not familiar with Paint.NET files -- do they have layers?  What fonts did you use?

Arpit Kambojon December 9 2014 09:42 UTCThank You.

Thank you for appreciating my work. I would work more hard to make a better splash screen.

and Paint.NET is an awesome software. It supports layers and many more things. The font is "Showcard Gothic".

I will change the background as suggested by you.

Thanks a lot.
