Animate our logo! #14BRL-CAD
Status: ClosedTime to complete: 100 hrs Mentors: Kesha Shah, IshwerdasTags: animation, 2D, logo, design, graphics

We have a logo inspired by interlocked nodes (like a bike chain). We'd like to see some concepts of how it might be animated. Use your creativity and make something we can either use on our website, or maybe even use as a "loading..." or progress bar animation.

Create 2D or 3D animated version of our logo. Submit an animated gif preview as well as any high-resolution raw working files you used (e.g., xcf/psd layers, individual frames, etc).

Do not just scale and/or spin an image around. Put some creative thought into how the animation might be used. Be creative, make it aesthetically pleasing.

Rohit,

Is there a particular reason you designed the logo to spin like this?

You were also supposed to upload raw working files again.

Also, there is a similar version of this design logo. It is, indeed, not identical, but it pretty much has the same idea.

Can you come up with something better?

Andrei

I think that a logo having circles/pins looks good spinning.

My new design shows the circles of logo as hands of a clock. Black one as minute's and maroon one as hour's. They start at 12 and stop at around 8:20.

About the raw files - I am sorry as I can't upload the actual raw files but I still uploaded them in .xcf format. Animation 3 is .xcf for the previous submission.

Daniel_R on January 13 2015 13:25 UTCNot bad

Let them rotate like a clock is OK ... and a good idea for a merchandise.  However, it would be nice to have the full 12 hours, maybe 12h in 12s?

And the black link should go into the background.  It is smaller as the red link because a part of it (where the two are linked) is covered by the red on.  Therefore, the red link is in the foreground and the black link is in the background.

Sean on January 13 2015 15:12 UTCalso not using the right logo

Rohit, you're also using the old logo, which is no good. :) See the wiki page for updated versions that should be used:

Also, as you have completed two other animation tasks already, let's make this the last one... give others an opportunity to work on animations too. ;)

Rohit Agarwalon January 13 2015 15:58 UTCAbout the Logo

I am using Sharan Narayan's png logo and it is in the Obtaining the logo section of the webpage. Is it not correct?

Rohit Agarwalon January 13 2015 15:58 UTC

the quality of logo has degraded a little

Sean on January 14 2015 05:01 UTCindeed

Rohit, ah using Sharan's is fine.  It looked like the black link was smaller than the red link, but I see now it's simply because the red link is shaking all around.  Is the center circle intentionally moving around?  I think it will be more technically useful and interesting if it wasn't wobbling around.  This also makes the black link seem to oscillate from being against the red link to having a large gap.

You're also right that the quality is particularly low given the original logo image is much higher quality.  Please make it higher or reduce the image size so artifacts are not as noticeable.

I made the links as stable as I can. Sorry I cannot keep the image size smaller than this. The quality is better now. Hope you like it.

And one more thing. I have another good idea for animation and I don't think that all the remaining 8-9 animation tasks would even be claimed in the remaining 5 days of GCI. So can I claim another animation task if get time to do it?

Daniel_R on January 14 2015 15:24 UTCLooks nice

but I'm still convicted that the red link should cover the black one (red link in foreground, black link in background).
