Write draft of BRL-CAD application interface design guidelinesBRL-CAD
Status: ClosedTime to complete:
100 hrs
Mentors: Popescu Andrei, Sean
This task involves defining a set of application design guidelines similar to this in content:
- https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/UserExperience/Conceptual/AppleHIGuidelines/Intro/Intro.html
- http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms229042(v=vs.110).aspx
Yours doesn't have to be pretty (there's a separate task for that) or nearly as detailed. Yours can be a simple text list or an annotated set of images. Whatever is best for conveying the design criteria. The emphasis is putting thought into the design criteria.
As our design guidelines are not well-defined, you get to propose a consistent simple set.
Submit your guidelines in an editable format.

I would like to work on this task.
This task has been assigned to Marc Tannous. You have 100 hours to complete this task, good luck!
Hello,
My last few designs were more of a concept or prototype, with this one I tried to focus on usability, readability and integration with other design guidelines.
I've looked into more guidelines than what you referenced in the description, and created a design that fits them, while being sleek, modern and responsive. I thought that this should be created as a web page for quick access by anyone, so I made it lightweight. Tried to have as little code images as possible, while fulfilling the task.
I realized that all design guidelines focus heavily on text rather than images to showcase concepts, so that is what I also did, and then it was all writing and coming up with stuff.
Overall, I hope you like it and that this could be of use. If you really like it, we can speak over IRC about what the next steps are to making this a complete guide, I can implement it as a task and we'd have a functioning UI guideline in no time :D.
Regards,
Marc

Congratulations, this task has been completed successfully.
I REALLY like this interface setup. It's simple, it's intuitive, it's a clean design. I could this possibly extending to our documentation system too, but I'm not sure how well it's work with crazy long menus. How possible would it be to make the left menu subtlely reflect what is being looked at on the right?
