Design a prototype CAD GUI layoutBRL-CAD
Status: ClosedTime to complete:
100 hrs
Mentors: Jacob B, Ch3ck
BRL-CAD's usability is notoriously complex and ''expert friendly''. MGED and Archer are the main geometry editors, with drastically different user interfaces.
This task involves evaluating the features provided by MGED and Archer, then designing a new GUI layout that encompasses their features while improving usability. Rationale for design decisions and layout should be provided.

Provide one or more mock-up images (png, pdf, psd, html, whatever)
Search for other similar GCI tasks (look at previous years too) to avoid making a similar design. You can use any tools, but your work must be original.

I would like to work on this task.
This task has been assigned to Yash. You have 100 hours to complete this task, good luck!
The work on this task is ready to be reviewed.
could you add more images for other aspects of the gui?
Congratulations, this task has been completed successfully.
Yash, I agree that more images for other aspects of the gui are desirable, but I'm almost certain you spent more than a few hours on this.... I'm loving this design. There are aspects of this and a couple others that we'll have to reconcile into a final design, but I really like how you incorporated one of our existing (BoT edit) panels as well as your homogeneous transformation icons. That said, I think it does beg for some changes to the icons, but overall this is still a fantastic showcase. How long did you work on this?
It took me a solid 7+ hours of work from scratch to make this. I think the icons should be more noticable too which can be easily fixed.
Glad you liked it.
