BRL-CAD's new modeling interface, archer, displays a splash screen when you start the program. This is what it currently looks like:
http://svn.code.sf.net/p/brlcad/code/brlcad/trunk/src/tclscripts/archer/images/aboutArcher.png
There are several problems with that image. It uses our old logo. It references the wrong website. It has a massive pointless ""icon"". It proclaim's archer being trademarked (distracting).
Your task is to design a completely new splash screen that has none of those problems, is visually interesting, optionally incorporates our new logo, and optionally references our main website (brlcad.org).
Check out some of the other design tasks for inspiration. Make yours look even more impressive, artistically interesting. ;)
Submit your image in whatever raw working format you use (e.g., psd), preferably something with layers in case we need to change anything, but also submit a final png image as well.

Hi,
I just read the task summary. I understood that the task at hand is to build a new Splash Screen. Some of the requirements stated in the task are:
1. Replace old logo with new logo. Where can I find the new logo?
2. Hyperlink to brdcad.org
The rest of the requirements not spelled out. No specific color schemes or themes are mentioned. Please let me know if you have any additional inputs before I get started.
Thanks,
Nafisa
The claim on this task has been removed, someone else can claim it now.
Nafisa,
If you made a comment then you should wait until somebody takes time at least to read it and reply accordingly.
Apart from having correct website link and official logo, there are not strict requirements that you need to fulfill. All you need to do is to unleash your creativity and produce an awesome artwork that we can use in future releases of BRL-CAD.
You can reclaim this task and start working on this.
Good luck!

Hey Ivan,
It's nice splash screen but the font you have used is bit too wide. It would be nice if you use some simple font and also try different backgrounds. A slight shadow (1px) would help the text be more legible.

Hello,
Sorry for the late reply. So basically i have to to change the font used, change a different background and add a shadow for my splash screen right? If there are any other things you would like me to change please inform me. Thank you.

Hello, this is my second attempt, do you want the png or jpeg version of this one now? Or do I have any changes to make first? Thank you, sorry for the mistakes made.
Ivan, I actually like your first version more, for a variety of reasons. :) The dominant is probably that it's more abstract in nature whereas the planet one is much more busy and detracts from the text, plus it raises legal questions whether we'd be able to use it.
Regardless, this is looking interesting. I particularly like the crispness on the "BRL-CAD" in the first design. You've done enough work already, but would you consider trying one more approach? I'd really like to see your first design with a much more subtle and lighter (handmade) background. Even a crisp radial gradient might work. It just needs to be something a lot lighter (but not too light or you'll lose the white glow effect). Also, you don't need two bylines. Try dropping the open source solid modeling byline as well as the url (this is a splash screen, not a business card), recentering, and seeing how that all looks. Be creative, find something you love. Think geometric.
I guess this whole "think, invent, create" byline movement is starting to catch on..

Hi Ivan,
The text and background image does not relate with each other. You can make it with plain background or try something simple.
Hello,
I apologise for all the mistakes made, so just to clarify, I need to change the background and drop the url and the "Open Source Solid Modeling" thing, however the task asks me to optionally reference the main website (brlcad.org) so should I drop both or just the Open source solid modeling thing? Thank you and sorry for disturbing.

Congratulations, this task has been completed successfully.
Ivan, that's looking a lot better. Looks like something we might even be able to use in a future version of BRL-CAD. Thanks!
Hello,
Thanks, and I apologise for having to redo it so many times.
