Design a web page that overviews the BRL-CAD contributors #3BRL-CAD
Status: ClosedTime to complete: 100 hrs Mentors: Isaac Kamga, HarmanpreetTags: web, javascript, js, html, design, css

BRL-CAD wants to encourage new developers and give credit to existing ones. A page on the wesbsite that gives details on the core contributors can help new developers learn the community and encouraging their participation.

We are interested in seeing concepts for what this page will look like. Concepts should be consistent with our existing (new) website design which you can see at http://cpp-tricks.com/brlcad/ or http://beta.brlcad.org/wp/

The task is to design a web based hall of fame where we'll be able to itemize each core developer with biographic information (e.g., their name, IRC nick and types of contributions they've made).

You may use any language or technology, (e.g., HTML+CSS, Javascript, WP plugin, etc), but a working webpage mockup is preferred. Submit your design in a raw editable form. Include a PNG screenshot of the design along with your editable files.

Ludwant123on December 6 2014 23:26 UTCIs the task just to create a website with the contributors information on it?

Are we supposed to make a website that has all this info, or do something more?

Isaac Kamga on December 7 2014 10:47 UTC

I think Contributors should be presented in 3 categories since BRL-CAD operates as a meritocracy.

Category 1: Developers and Administrators of the BRL-CAD project who have contributed significantly over a decade like Mike Muuss, Sean Christopher, etc should have their Picture, Name (Clickable with links to their LinkedIn, Google+, sourceforge, github profiles as they see fit), IRC Nick, Biography (Should be between 200 to 300 words) on the Contributors Page just like on this page http://mil-oss.org/about/steering-committee. Make sure their pictures are left justified rather than right justified.

Category 2: Developers and Doc writers who have contributed for less than a decade. Picture, Name, IRC Nick, Biography (should be between 50 to 100 words )Links to their Profiles on LinkedIn, Google+, github, sourceforge, etc should be included.

Category 3: Student developers who contributed for a few months to less than 3 years such as GSoC students, SOCIS, etc. Include their names, IRC nicks, No biography, Links to sourceforge, github, Google+, Linkedin profiles.

Is all of the information given in the links above?

Isaac Kamga on December 7 2014 17:51 UTCSome Information is provided in the links above

You can access some information on the structure of the web page by checking the links above. If the content for the website is not available, then work with what's available now.

I would like to work on this task.

Mihai Neacsu on December 9 2014 04:33 UTCTask Assigned

This task has been assigned to Firelord Ninzhan. You have 100 hours to complete this task, good luck!

Firelord Ninzhanon December 9 2014 18:44 UTCAlready in place code

The websites above have a lot of code that would already work for this site. Am I allowed to use that code?

Firelord Ninzhanon December 10 2014 04:36 UTC

Not the references, but the examples of BRL-CAD websites

Firelord Ninzhanon December 13 2014 06:01 UTCReady for review

The work on this task is ready to be reviewed.

Congratulations, this task has been completed successfully.

Sean on December 13 2014 08:07 UTChow long?

Firelord, interesting original design concept.  Thank you!  Please consider taking on some of the other website design tasks.  You're clearly talent at it.  How long did this design take you?

I worked everyday after school for as long as I could, and sometimes while at school. Probably about 3 hours a day average on all 4 days. Twelve hours ish.
