Animate our logo! #20BRL-CAD
Status: ClosedTime to complete: 100 hrs Mentors: Jacob B, Daniel_RTags: animation, 2D, logo, design, graphics

We have a logo inspired by interlocked nodes (like a bike chain). We'd like to see some concepts of how it might be animated. Use your creativity and make something we can either use on our website, or maybe even use as a "loading..." or progress bar animation.

Create 2D or 3D animated version of our logo. Submit an animated gif preview as well as any high-resolution raw working files you used (e.g., xcf/psd layers, individual frames, etc).

Do not just scale and/or spin an image around. Put some creative thought into how the animation might be used. Be creative, make it aesthetically pleasing.

Daniel_R on January 18 2015 15:23 UTCWas this done with Blender?

And: "Do not just scale and/or spin an image around."  And the GIF is very slow, maybe because of the large images in the frames.

All-in-all it's more a movie than an animated logo.  As a movie it would be nice, if it wasn't done with Blender but BRL-CAD.

Raptor, this is interesting.  Not at all what was intended for this task, but we can pretend that this was a general brl-cad animation task.  It looks like you modeled this with After Effects?  Please describe your process.

It looks pretty good overall, except the 2D sketch on the left does not look like a brl-cad blueprint.  You don't cite your source and you always should when/if you use materials from others.  That said, we don't want images from others.  You could use one of our images such as this one: http://brlcad.org/gallery/renderings/havoc_rtedge or some other rtedge rendering, but definitely not a work by someone else.

Raptor, saying it's "just some hand drawing" is not giving proper attribution to a source.  It was interesting and good enough for you to decide to use it in your design, so the respectful thing to do is give that author credit for that aspect of your design (by at least saying their name and/or where the image came from).

To not give attribution is a form of plagiarism.  Unless you drew it yourself...

That said, I also see you uploaded the havoc image, but I don't see updated animation files or preview frames.
