Design a cover image or banner for our Facebook page (and/or another social media site) #11BRL-CAD
Status: ClosedTime to complete: 72 hrs Mentors: SeanTags: design, graphics, 2D, facebook, image, artwork

BRL-CAD got a relatively new logo. The website is undergoing major changes. So this re-branding of BRL-CAD also requires a good, well designed and attractive cover photo for the BRL-CAD's Facebook page and other social media facades. It should feature a good tagline (our official is "open source solid modeling") or showcase some killer feature of BRL-CAD, BRL-CAD's new logo and/or some illustration/image regarding the feature highlighted.

It should be consistent with the color scheme of our new website design.  Please avoid a military-centric theme and cheesy bylines (you can use "Open Source Solid Modeling" or something else simple).   Make it look impressive, awesome.  Be simple, but be awesome.

Submit one image of the banner image by itself and another example mock-up image showing how it will look on our Facebook page.  Any image format will do just fine.

There are duplicates of this task as we solicit ideas and inspiration. Look at the other completed GCI "facebook" tasks and make yours look even better. Do not claim more than one without discussing with us first.

Sorry for the inconvenience you had.

Regarding your design

Well it's a good design. But I guess in the description it is mentioned to avoid a military centeric theme for cover photo.

I would suggest to use some feature of BRL-CAD as a theme for your cover photo. Showcase of some major features are in the new website

I wasn't trying to be military-centric, but this was the highest-quality image made with BRL-CAD I could find. I'll see what I can do.

I like the latest design a lot.  The only issue is that the engine model there is not a BRL-CAD model.  Perhaps try that exact same design with http://brlcad.org/tmp/bearing/ (or something else in http://brlcad.org/tmp/).

Also, please upload your raw working files if you have any (like an .xcf or .psd or whatever you actually used where the text is still "editable text").

I uploaded the cover image and mockup as PNG files, and then the editable file is an SVG created in Inkscape. It's not a 'true' SVG, because it has an embedded PNG, but I like working in Inkscape so I decided to go with it anyway.
