BRL-CAD's new modeling interface, archer, displays a splash screen when you start the program. This is what it currently looks like:
http://svn.code.sf.net/p/brlcad/code/brlcad/trunk/src/tclscripts/archer/images/aboutArcher.png
There are several problems with that image. It uses our old logo. It references the wrong website. It has a massive pointless "icon". It proclaim's archer being trademarked.
Your task is to design a completely new splash screen that has none of those problems, is visually interesting, incorporates our new logo, and references are main website (brlcad.org).
Check out some of the other design tasks for inspiration. Make yours look even more impressive, artistically interesting. ;)
Submit your image in whatever raw working format you use (e.g., psd), preferably something with layers in case we need to change anything, but also submit a final png image as well.

I would like to work on this task.
This task has been assigned to Marcin Ławniczak. You have 72 hours to complete this task, good luck!

I like the simple design, but something is missing. Probably the lack of a background design. At a minimum, the interior of the gear logo should be white, not transparent. Also, no need for dash between open-source, contrary to the current splash screen.
One of the mentors has sent this task back for more work. Talk to the mentor(s) assigned to this task to satisfy the requirements needed to complete this task, submit your work again and mark the task as complete once you re-submit your work.

It was better as gray. The model adds too much detail making the image very busy, distracting. Even some simple stylized lines or a pattern would probably be better. A couple big polygons of slightly different shades of gray perhaps, or some sort of curling grid like a zoomed in wireframe surface, something very simple but more than flat gray.

I added two different versions, with cassini and without.
We can call it complete, but one last revision should be all that is needed to fix the last two remaining issues.
The logo is very slightly clipped on the left side (notice the sharp edge). There are numerous completed GCI task logos that you could use that are pristine.
Also, if you really like the cassini model that much, some suggestions would be to increase the size by 2x-5x (i.e., really big) and make it more transparent (maybe 50%-75%).

Congratulations, this task has been completed successfully.
I like how the lines make it look like an old TV display... displaying an old space craft. ;)
Marcin, want to let you know that you are just one task shy of getting a t-shirt from Google for having completed three tasks. (If you completed other tasks with other orgs, you may already qualify too). Thank you for your efforts!
