Redesign MGED/Archer's MenuBRL-CAD
Status: ClosedTime to complete:
72 hrs
Mentors: Sean
BRL-CAD's geometry editing applications, like most graphical applications, have an application menu with a variety of features, capabilities, and options, but with little attention to cohesive design.
Review the menus for MGED and Archer. Design a new menu system based on both of them that eliminates confusion, is easier to navigate, and has menu options more logically grouped together.

Provide screenshots or detailed text indicating what menu options should be available and what exactly is on each menu.

This task has been assigned to Anita Leung. You have 72 hours to complete this task, good luck!
The work on this task is ready to be reviewed.
Anita, this is really nice work and I like that you provided pretty detailed information about the button panels in addition to the menus. No comments or changes on the raytrace and tools menus? Also, sounds like you're okay with the names of all the top-level menu groups?
What do you think is the most needed change?
Perhaps the options Command Window and Options Window on the tools menu are unnecessary since the user should already know how to open those windows him/herself, and on the raytrace menu "nirt" can be renamed to something a little more descriptive. The names of the top-level menu groups seem fine, maybe the misc menu can be renamed to something that could better describe the options under it.
I think the most needed change is to use names for options that a user new to the program can easily understand. For example, the options of arb8, rpp, arbn, rcc, ars aren't very readable.
Congratulations, this task has been completed successfully.
