Design a prototype CAD GUI layoutBRL-CAD
Status: ClosedTime to complete:
72 hrs
Mentors: Sean
BRL-CAD's usability is notoriously complex and "expert friendly". MGED and Archer are the main geometry editors, with drastically different user interfaces.
This task involves evaluating the features provided by MGED and Archer, then designing a new GUI layout that encompasses their features while improving usability. Rationale for design decisions and layout should be provided.

That looks great, Gauravjeet. Can you talk about the design some? Why did you chose that particular layout? How'd you come up with those icons (where are they from)? How long did it take you?
At first I just made a layout, where the sidebar had only names, but that looked a bit incomplete to me. After some research, I figured out that if there were icons, the design would look great. The icons in the sidebar are related to their title, for example For heading "manage finances" i thought that icon(a bag with dollar sign) is relevant. All the icons whether in sidebar or on toolbar are from wikimedia commons. Some easy tools like crop tool are made by me.
The idea of color behind the console mode is from the ubuntu terminal. The color behind the console mode is the default color of the ubuntu terminal.
It took 2 days to complete my design.
