Mock up new BRL-CAD website interface design (#4)BRL-CAD
Status: ClosedTime to complete:
72 hrs
Mentors: Sean
BRL-CAD's main website needs a facelift. Design a new website interface mock-up. Emphasize the look and feel of the site with a carefully thought out layout and graphical appeal.
You're welcome to create your own concept artwork, put boxes saying "logo goes here", or use our new logos:
- http://brlcad.org/images/logo (just don't use the old eagle logo)
You can submit an image, photoshop files, working html files, or even a pen and paper sketch (but it better be impressive and complete).
If we like your design, a follow-up task may be posted to turn your design into a proper drupal and/or mediawiki theme (so you may want to demo the design in CSS anyways).
Here are some examples of other open source project websites that are relevant:

You may want to look at what some other students have already submitted as there are multiple website design tasks.

I would like to work on this task.
I have experience creating Mockups and took an online course from Stanford University, Human Computer Interaction, which focused on making interfaces for web or mobile applications. I would love to give this a try, I'm sure I would be successful. Can I use Mockup programs such as Balsamiq or Justinmind Prototyper (I would be able to provide either a Pdf/ web link for viewing)?
This task has been assigned to Nikita Abraham. You have 72 hours to complete this task, good luck!
Is it possible to email the pdf to you, for some reason my computer isn't allowing me to upload anything.
It worked :D
The work on this task is ready to be reviewed.
Melange has detected that the deadline has passed and no more work can be submitted. The submitted work should be reviewed.
Now that is really pretty awesome! Sorry for the delay responding (holidays), but that is exactly what we're hoping to see (and obviously, a pdf is fine). Thanks!
If you're familiar with Drupal or Mediawiki templates, we may have other follow-on tasks.
I'd be interested in seeing what you can do with some of of other design tasks:

Congratulations, this task has been completed successfully.
Nikita, given your fantastic work on this task, do you have any plans to work on other tasks? We hope so. ;)
I would love to do another task. I was hoping to work on this one, http://www.google-melange.com/gci/task/view/google/gci2012/8115209, but it seems someone has already claimed it. I am really focusing on tasks concerning usability design since that's something I'd love to go into. If the task reopens, or you have something similar, I would be happy to work on it.
Nikita, note that there are often multiple design tasks posted for the same end goal in order to get numerous perspectives. The CAD interface task is one of them, there is another still open.

You're welcome and encouraged to contact us any time, especially if you have a question about how to continue participating in Open Source after GCI is over, but even if just to keep in touch. Note that ongoing participation in Open Source is one of the most impressive skills to have on your resumé. Take care, be well, and thank you again!
