Write a BRL-CAD showcase article #2BRL-CAD
Status: ClosedTime to complete:
48 hrs
Mentors: Sean
BRL-CAD has several ongoing development activities developed by community members that showcase the power and applicability of BRL-CAD to various domains. For this task, you'd be expected to interview one or more individuals to obtain information and pictures about their project, write up a descriptive overview of their model, the goals of the project, and any interesting ancillary information that may be relevant. We had 6 GSoC students that are prime candidates for a write-up as well as a number of other on-going developments. There are presently several candidate topics listed in our Community Publication Portal (CPP).
The output of this task is an article added to our CPP wiki page in a final draft review state.

I would like to work on this task.
This task has been assigned to Plamen Hristov Nikiforov. You have 48 hours to complete this task, good luck!
Hello, I just wanna ask how to contact the GSoC students so I can interview them.
Plamen, the contact info for all of our GSoC students is on our wiki. You can find descriptions of their projects and more there as well. Be sure to look at the other GCI-interview tasks that were completed so that you do not contact and attempt to interview the same student as someone else.

Plamen, it looks like you didn't actually interview Alex -- you just copied text he had already written into the wiki. You have the right idea with appropriate questions, but the "responses" you have are not useful just extracted out of context like that. Moreover, you included two massive quotes that are entirely inappropriate.
Moreover, if you would have started with the basics, you would have discovered that Alex did not complete his project. Your interview could have explored why that was or whether he has plans to continue his work or whether he's doing anything else with open source.
I suggest trying again, but starting by writing up a set of questions, and e-mailing one or two of the other students (suggest you stick to the first 5-7 listed) and seeing who is willing to respond quickly.

Melange has detected that the deadline has passed and no more work can be submitted. The submitted work should be reviewed.
Plamen, did you not understand the previous reply?
This is no good. The article is a misrepresentation. You're taking Alex's text from the wiki and applying your own questions to them as if he was answering you. In reality, they are quotes out of context and in at least one case you even changed the quote to fit your question. You can't do that!
You need to actually e-mail one of the GSoC students if you're going to write an article about them and their work to get *actual* responses to your questions. You need to pick a student that is *not* Alex at this point too.

Plamen, I missed noticing in the first review that there should be at least one image with every article. Can you find something representative of Andrei's work, either from him or from the wiki or elsewhere, that can go with the article?
