Reorganize MGED menuBRL-CAD
Status: ClosedTime to complete: 48 hrs Mentors: SeanTags: menu, GUI, usability

BRL-CAD's main graphical user interface, MGED, is heavily menu-driven but not exceptionally well organized. This task involves performing an exhaustive review of MGED's various menus, including temporary menus when in a given editing state, reorganizing them for logical groupings, and rewording them for clarity. It's necessary to learn the basics of the MGED interface in order to understand what the various options do.

For this task, you'll provide a description of the existing menus and mapping to a new organization including basic rationale behind any new groupings or rewording.

Harmanpreet Singh on November 28 2012 04:25 UTCTask Description

GUI of BRL-CAD (known as MGED) has lot of options which are not well organized. You need to review (when in an editing mode i.e. when you are editing some geometry) and reorganize / categorize them logically. You can also change / modify names of menus / options for more clarity and user friendliness.

You will need to describe existing menus and mapping to new organization of menus and reason for the same. Check reference link given above.

Also ask on IRC. May you get instant help for further questions there.

The deadline of the task has been extended with 2 days and 0 hours.

Sean on December 2 2012 06:16 UTCon the right track

You are definitely on the right track.  That's looking fantastic.  I noticed you expanded to some panels -- if you like, you can keep those separate and we can turn them into another task.  It's enough work to just focus on the menus, no? :)

Ashishon December 2 2012 08:41 UTCYa Sure

I will do that only

In this way i can get 2 tasks in one shot

Can this happen ??

Sean on December 2 2012 15:12 UTCsure

It can happen.  Just make sure you submit all the menu changes for this one and then claim the panels one that will be published after this one is closed.

Ashishon December 2 2012 18:29 UTCReady for review
