Create prototype 2D CAD drawing(s)BRL-CAD
Status: ClosedTime to complete: 48 hrs Mentors: SeanTags: 2D, CAD, diagram, drawing, prototype

BRL-CAD provides limited services for drafting features including the production of 2D CAD drawings (blueprints).

This task involves designing a 2D CAD drawing prototype that effectively captures a set of design requirements and follows industry conventions. Basically, this requires identifying one or more style(s) of drawings that should be supported along with critical elements to be included on each drawing.

I think you may be close, but I say may because I'm not sure what I'm actually looking at.  That is, there needs to be (at the very least) some elaboration as to what the .pdf files are supposed to be in relation to the task.

I will admit that I don't fully understand what this task is supposed to be myself, as I can read it  a few different ways, and some of them sound like A LOT of work.  So basically, for now if you could simply explain how your work meets the task that would be great.

Cheers!

Teepenon November 30 2012 16:57 UTCThanks!

Thank you for the tips.

is the prototype ok? if it isn't,any advice on what I should repair?

Sean on December 4 2012 21:18 UTCnot understanding the task?

Andrei, I think you might not be understanding this task.  Your latest image makes for an interesting visual aid that might make for an interesting diagram of some sort, but it's not what is being expected for this task.  The emphasis is on *prototype*.

Assume you have a standard A4 or legal sized blank sheet of paper that you want to print a 2D drawing on to.  Where does the title go?  Where do you include rulers?  How many rendered views will fit?  Which ones would be standard/default?  Where do they go?  Where would auxilliary information go?

If you do a google image search for "blueprints", you'll see a huge variety of results.  We're looking to standardize on an output and need to design a prototype that describes all of the important elements.

This task may not be suited to you if that all sounds foreign, but you're welcome to have more time if you think you understand.

Andrei Tudoricaon December 4 2012 21:25 UTCQ

Would it be good if I make the bleprints of a memory stick rendering the side view, front view and top view on a landscape A4...? Or I get this all thing wrong and the idea is to describe generaly a A4 blueprint?

Sean on December 4 2012 23:14 UTCwrong question

What geometry you use doesn't matter at all (in fact you could complete this task with no geometry, but it helps).  It matters more what goes on the page, where they are placed on the page, how much space they consume, and most importantly WHY a particular layout.  That's why ASME Y14.41 and ISO 128 are listed as important resources.

Sean on December 5 2012 21:12 UTCmore on track

so you're more on track with the latest scheme, but I'd already have some critiques.  You should not have *any* wasted space.  For example, the areas to the right and left of the "title" are wasted in that example.  That space should be used by something else or the title should be somewhere else.  Also, the ruler just doesn't make any sense.

Again, you REALLY need to read all of the references to be able to complete this task successfully.  There are standard elements that are expected that are too complicated to describe here, that's why there are references.. :)

Sean on December 7 2012 05:27 UTCstill not in a usable state

So this is still not in a usable state as you don't provide any information on why you chose this particular layout.  You also merely copy-pasted information from wikipedia without citing them as a source.  That is never acceptable.

You're on the right track with the layout, but the shapes of the sections don't make much sense for the content you prescribed going into them.

Andrei, I think it's best to "cut your losses".  If you fix the wikipedia plagarism, I'll close this task out since it technically fulfills the goals as a prototype, albeit a non-functional one.

Andrei Tudoricaon December 7 2012 06:54 UTC...

I am not usualy that stupid...:D

Sean on December 7 2012 16:51 UTCit's a lesson to learn from

Andrei, we're not annoyed nor do I think you're stupid.  You may be unfamiliar with the seriousness of plagarism or simply not prepared for what this tasks requires.  It is a bit of an advanced concept to follow a standard and come up with a template.  You'd probably need to have gone to a vocational school or had CAD training to do the task better.  The important less, however, is that you should never submit something as work you did, even text pulled from wikipedia, witout citing your sources.

Please don't give up. :)  Take this as a lesson to learn from and we'll see how the next task goes. Try something not quite so foreign to your experience. ;)
