NAME
qisst - Qt interactive raytracing viewer for BRL-CAD geometry
On this page
SYNOPSIS
DESCRIPTION
qisst is a Qt and OpenGL based viewer that uses the Advanced Distributed Raytracer (ADRT) tie engine to provide real-time, interactive raytraced visualization of BRL-CAD geometry. It is the Qt-based successor to the older Tcl/Tk isst(1) tool.
On startup qisst opens a graphical window with a File menu offering Open, Save Image, Save Settings, and Exit actions. Window geometry and other preferences are persisted between sessions through the platform’s Qt settings store (organization "BRL-CAD", application "ISST").
When invoked with a BRL-CAD geometry database (file.g) followed by one or more target object names, qisst loads those objects, tessellates their BoT and NMG primitives into the tie acceleration structure, and begins rendering immediately. The objects are required: a database loaded from the command line must be accompanied by at least one object name. Geometry may also be loaded after startup through File → Open, which presents a file chooser for .g and .asc databases.
OPTIONS
qisst takes no dash-prefixed options. Its only command-line arguments are an optional geometry database and the objects to display:
- file.g
-
A BRL-CAD geometry database to open. When supplied, it must be followed by one or more object arguments.
- object
-
The name of a region or combination within file.g to load and raytrace. One or more may be given.
EXAMPLES
qisst moss.g all.g
Opens the sample moss.g database, tessellates and loads the all.g combination into the tie engine, and presents the model in an interactive raytraced window where it can be navigated and inspected.
mged -c part.g "make box rpp; r assembly.r u box; q"
qisst part.g assembly.r
Uses mged(1) to create a small assembly, then launches qisst on just the assembly.r region so that one component can be examined in isolation rather than rendering the entire database.
