PNG-PIX(1)

NAME

png-pix - convert a PNG image to a BRL-CAD pix image

On this page

SYNOPSIS

png-pix [-v] [png_input_file] > pix_output_file

DESCRIPTION

png-pix decodes a Portable Network Graphics (PNG) image (such as one saved by fb-png(1) or pix-png(1)) and writes it to standard output as a pix(5) file of bottom-to-top RGB pixels. If png_input_file is not given, the PNG image is read from standard input.

Grayscale images are expanded to RGB (with a warning), palette and low bit-depth images are expanded to full 8-bit channels, 16-bit channels are reduced to 8 bits, and any alpha channel is composited over the image background color.

OPTIONS

-v

Verbose. Print the PNG color type, bit depth, image dimensions, background color, gamma, interlace status, embedded text chunks, and modification time to standard error.

EXAMPLES

Example 1. Display a PNG screenshot on a framebuffer
png-pix tank.png | pix-fb -w 512 -n 512

Decode the PNG into pix data and pipe it directly to pix-fb(1) for display, without creating an intermediate file. The width and height must match the image (use png-pix -v tank.png to discover its dimensions).
