PIX-ALIAS(1)

NAME

pix-alias - convert a BRL-CAD pix image to Alias(tm) pix format

On this page

SYNOPSIS

pix-alias [-s _squaresize_] [-w _file_width_] [-n _file_height_] < BRLpixfile > ALIASpixfile

DESCRIPTION

pix-alias reads a BRL-CAD pix(5) image (a stream of RGB pixel triples) on the standard input and writes an Alias(tm) PIX image on the standard output. The Alias format is run-length encoded and stores pixels as count, B, G, R runs preceded by a short header describing the image dimensions, offsets, and bit depth (24 bits per pixel).

Because pix(5) files carry no dimensions, the input size must be supplied on the command line; it defaults to 512 by 512 pixels. The output scanlines are written bottom-to-top as expected by Alias readers. pix-alias refuses to run when its standard input is a terminal.

OPTIONS

-s squaresize

Set both the width and the height of the input image to squaresize pixels.

-w file_width

Set the width of the input image to file_width pixels.

-n file_height

Set the height of the input image to file_height scanlines.

-h, -?

Print a usage message and exit.

EXAMPLES

Example 1. Convert a rendered frame to Alias format
rt -s 1024 -o frame.pix model.g component
pix-alias -s 1024 < frame.pix > frame.alias

Render a 1024x1024 image with rt(1), then convert that pix(5) file into an Alias PIX file for use with tools that expect the Alias format. The -s flag tells pix-alias the input is square so it allocates the correct buffer.

Example 2. Convert a non-square image
pix-alias -w 1280 -n 720 < wide.pix > wide.alias

Convert a 1280x720 (720p) pix(5) file, specifying width and height independently with -w and -n.
