IFC-G(1)
NAME
ifc-g - convert an IFC (Industry Foundation Classes) STEP file to a BRL-CAD database
On this page
SYNOPSIS
DESCRIPTION
ifc-g converts a building model stored in the IFC (Industry Foundation Classes) exchange format into a BRL-CAD geometry database (*.g). IFC is a STEP-based (ISO 10303-21) schema used by Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools to describe building and construction data, and ifc-g reads such a file using the IFC4 schema and emits the corresponding BRL-CAD objects.
The input IFC file is given as the final positional argument. A single dash (-) may be supplied in place of a filename to read the model from standard input. The destination database is named with the mandatory -o option; ifc-g refuses to overwrite an existing output file.
This converter is an experimental STEP tool and is only built when BRL-CAD is configured with experimental STEP support enabled.
OPTIONS
- -o output.g
-
Name of the BRL-CAD database to create. This option is required, and the named file must not already exist.
- -v
-
Verbose mode; print additional progress and diagnostic information while the model is loaded.
- -D
-
Dry run. Parse and load the input IFC file but do not write geometry to the output database, useful for validating an input file.
- -S summary.log
-
Write a summary log of the conversion to the named file.
EXAMPLES
ifc-g -v -o building.g building.ifc
mged building.g 'tops'
Converts the IFC model building.ifc into building.g with verbose progress output, then lists the top-level objects of the resulting database with mged(1) so the imported geometry can be examined.
ifc-g -D -S import.log -o /tmp/check.g model.ifc
Performs a dry run that loads model.ifc and records a summary of the parse in import.log without committing geometry, allowing a file to be checked before a full conversion.
