The MGED saveview command will save the currently selected view to a file.  This file is exported as a simple shell script that by default will render what is being displayed in the active MGED view to a pix file if run outside MGED on the command-line.  There are various saveview options available for overriding what is output including the renderer to be used, logging options, and more.  The saveview files can be reloaded using the MGED [[loadview]] command for restoring a given view.
