Model a toy car with wheels and axles in BRL-CADBRL-CAD
Status: ClosedTime to complete: 72 hrs Mentors: SeanTags:

This task involves modeling a toy car in BRL-CAD. The toy car should be modeled in such a way that it can be printed using a 3d printer. The shape of toy car should be thought by keeping the word TOY in mind. As this shape would be 3d printed, all the axle and wheel arrangement should be done.

The output of this task would be a rendered image, and .g file of the toy car. If you wish to write a step by step tutorial of creating this model, search for it as another GCI task is there to write a tutorial.

Sharan Narayanon November 21 2013 06:11 UTCIncomplete

this has overlaps when doing rtcheck

So please give me suggestions to improve it more....

I also haven't joined the letters together, I was thinking of a plane but that would increase the overlaps...

Sharan Narayanon November 21 2013 07:36 UTCOverlapps

I removed all the overlapps rtcheck isnt giving any overlapps now..

Any suggestions for joining the O in the toy with the T and Y

Sharan Narayanon November 21 2013 13:10 UTCNew Pair of wheels

I just went to your site and found that MGED had a tire function built into into it

Sean on November 22 2013 03:20 UTCinteresting interpretation

Sharan,

Really interesting interpretation of the task, creatinging a 'car' based on the letter 'T', 'O', and 'Y'.  That's not what was intended at all, but it is interesting.  The notion was to create something simple that looks like a toy car one might buy in a store.

Regardless of the interpretation, your model is not suitable for 3D printing and needs corrections.  At a minimum, all of the body pieces must solidly connect with each other (except the axel, which should run throuh a hole in the body).  If you're ambitious, I'd suggest starting over with the original idea in mind.  Something like one of these:

Sharan Narayanon November 22 2013 12:45 UTCDo this

draw car.c axles.c wheels.c

it should do the trick, I did rtcheck it shows overlaps but it i cant remove it because it joins the wheels and axle together

Sean on November 23 2013 01:36 UTCright file?

The toycar.g file doesn't have a car.c, axles.c, or wheels.c in it.  Are you sure you uploaded the right file?

Congratulations, this task has been completed successfully.

Sean on November 23 2013 06:13 UTClooks good

Sharan, that looks good, much better.  That's something that can be 3D-printed.  Are you interested in more modeling tasks?  We may have more work like this if you're interested that we can create tasks for.  I believe there are one or two others already, but more to come.

Sharan Narayanon November 23 2013 09:26 UTCYep, I am Interested

It would be awesome if you add more modelling tasks :-D

I was thinking of making the logo once in 3D again, iron man arc reactor is too compilcated and tough

I also did a followup on the sticker task i did, can you please check it..
