Last week, we were finally able to get a FULL valid Coverity scan of the BRL-CAD source code! If you're interested in helping resolve the issues detected, please join in our development discussion on the brlcad-devel mailing list or IRC channel and introduce yourself.
Since 2006, BRL-CAD has been a participant in the Coverity Scan Initiative, an effort funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to improve the quality, safety and security of open source software. Coverity performs a static source code analysis (one of the best) and generates a detailed report of issues detected.
The BRL-CAD scan was previously "stuck" and woefully incomplete but we're now back online and operational! For more details including screenshots of example issues being reported, see our code cleanup page for more details.
The issues detected are all managed through a private website that is only accessible if you have an account. If you're interested in helping, fantastic. Get in touch on the brlcad-devel mailing list or IRC channel soon.
PLEASE don't bother asking for an account if you're only interested in looking at results or poking around. We're putting together a small team of devs that are intent on actually fixing all of the issues reported over the next few months (after our new build system is integrated).
This would be a great way to get involved in BRL-CAD open source development if you've been contemplating contributing!
