BRL-CAD uses a fantastic system called "CIA" to instantaneously announce source code changes to an Internet Relay Chat (IRC) discussion channel. It has pretty much nothing to do with the US gov't agency of the same name, but everything to do with keeping the most dedicated members of our project instantly informed of on-going activities. Notoriously difficult to track, though, are changes made to our wiki ... until now.
We implemented an extension to Mediawiki (i.e., the wiki we use on the BRL-CAD website) called "CIA Notify". This extension sends change notifications to the CIA IRC reporting system. When an edit is made to our wiki, CIA is immediately informed of the change and CIA in turn relays a notification in real time to our project IRC channel. This extension works seamlessly and similarly to other version control system commit hooks available for CIA. See http://cia.vc for more information about the CIA project.
See http://mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:CIAnotify for more information about the new CIA Notify extension to Mediawiki.

I would like to advertise a little for the RSS feed option of the
'recent changes' page of the wiki as this facility is also a very
elegant way to get notification on new pages and updates.
